Agenda Nuclear 2021.

Urgent challenges.
The Nuclear Challenges Agenda contemplates a series of compact events, lasting one day each, aimed at debating the main themes that urgently need to be faced to speed up the development of the Brazilian Nuclear Program. In 2021, there will be four strategic themes for the nuclear sector, initially in an online format and, if the pandemic and vaccination allow, they may also be in person from the second semester onwards. The first one deals with the challenges of transforming Food Irradiation into a business, including the need for equipment, technologies, business models, etc. In addition to the issue of Irradiation in Agriculture, the Agenda provides for a debate on Nuclear Medicine, which needs profound changes in its policy and legislation to democratize the population's access to its benefits. The third theme involves Professional Training, an unavoidable challenge for the country to develop its Nuclear Program safely and continuously, in the short, medium and long terms. Finally, the Nuclear Challenge Agenda discusses a current and strategic issue worldwide: Modular Reactor Technologies, which can help reduce nuclear plant costs and speed up reactor construction times.

Nuclear Agenda of Urgent Challenges 2021

Today, four themes within the nuclear area are urgent for the development of the sector to its full potential and are dealt with punctually in the CASA VIVA Agenda:

Irradiation in Agriculture and Livestock April 8, 2021 - A technology used in many countries, but still little explored in Brazil, which can be transformed into a business and help to boost the export of fruits, animal protein and others. Among the main potential customers of this activity are agribusiness and the area of medical and hospital equipment. Permanent theme in the Agenda.

Nuclear Medicine - The policy and legislation for this sector need radical and profound changes in order to democratize the population's access to its benefits. Nuclear medicine is essential for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer.

Professional Training - An Unavoidable Challenge for the Country. With its professional potential aged and without the necessary replacement, the nuclear sector needs to implement and accelerate in the Country an efficient education system of training and specialization, to train manpower and ensure that development the nuclear chain is not impacted by the lack of these professionals. In addition to being an area with strong potential to generate jobs.

Modular Reactor Technologies - The adoption of this technology is now a trend worldwide. It allows to reduce costs of nuclear plants, speeds up the construction time of the reactors and allows the implementation of several of them in the same site. Brazil is already studying the adoption of modular reactors in future projects to meet the PNE 2050, which establishes the implantation of 10,000 MW from nuclear sources in the next 30 years.
